I attend WAHS (sophomore) and I would say that it's a good school if you enjoy sports, teaching yourself, and cliques. Basically, your average high school. There's a lot of pressure from teachers to do well without good teaching. Although there are some good teachers, it severely lacks a good math department and diversity among students and teachers. The teachers give special privileges to those who play sports and shame those who don't. Overall, the teachers have little respect for students and give off the feeling that they are only there to get paid.

WAHS is an excellent high school. There are opportunities for every type of child. The sports programs are wonderful, as is the drama department. There are a few teachers who need to retire, but overall they are excellent. WAHS sends students to the best colleges in the State.

We are on our second child at Western. There are some great teachers and staff members at this school. Dr. Domecq and Mr. Driver are two of the best! They take the time to connect with students and parents. There are too many teachers to list all that we have had great experiences with. Our only criticism would be with the foreign language department. Mrs. Pugh is an amazing teacher, but our experiences with the other teachers has been very poor. The school has a new principal this year and we are excited to see more improvements.

I am a student at Western Albemarle and I love the school! I previously attended Albemarle High School, and that school cant even compare to how good Western Albemarle is! The teachers at WAHS are great! And it's a great school environment! I wish I could have been at WAHS all of my high school years!

I was a student at Western Albemarle from 2001-2005. The education I received there went above and beyond what most high schools in the area offered. The teachers were fantastic and the environment was fun.

This High School is the best HS my son(s) have attended. Not only do they offer and exemplify quality teaching, but the safety and friendliness of the students is fantastic. I have visited other Albemarle County high schools and am nearly terrified at the rudeness of the students, the threats on others, and the continued lack of discipline. Western is clearly above all in every category.

We moved to Albemarle County last year and deliberately chose Western based on test scores, web information sites like this one, and personal contact with guidance and staff. We love the school and know we made a great choice. The parents organizations are wonderful and the involvement by nearly all students in clubs and sports adds to the great learning experience. The quality of the teachers is high, with only one exception so far. Dr. Coughlin has been open and receptive to questions and concerns, and Mr. McCurdy (guidance) has been helpful and organized. We would make the same choice again.

Western Albemarle is such a wonderful school. The students love to be there and are proud to call it their second home. The teacher-student relationship is amazing and the principal Dr. Coughlin is very open to both parent's and student's suggestions and concerns. The teachers do a wonderful job which is shown by the above average test scores and the students work hard to keep up with the difficult courses. The high percentage of students involved in sports and clubs is astounding. This school is very close to perfection.
